...About Me...

Hello, welcome to “Alex has Office Hours”. My name is Alex and I work as a Youth Pastor in Montebello, CA Lawrence, KS (how did THAT happen?) a liberal college town just west of Kansas City. I am also engaged MARRIED (whoa!) to the most wonderful woman in the world, Kate Homet JACKSON! I can’t really recall how I ended up here but I know that this is where Christ wants me and so when I found out that I should be having office hours I figured, “there must be a purpose to this!” I quickly realized that sitting in an office for hours on end thinking about how you’re going to hang out with Jr. High and High School students will turn you into a super weird Youth Pastor who clearly thinks about nothing else all day long. I started growing a long beard and getting pretty stir crazy. So when my girlfriend WIFE told me I should do something useful with my time at first I was offended. “I do tons of useful stuff. I watch Hulu for hours, and sometimes I wake up early and watch Live with Regis and Kelly (now just Kelly :( I guess they actually just call it Live! now... weird) so, that’s pretty intense youth research.” To my surprise youth don’t actually watch Regis and Kelly LIVE! (or Rachel Ray).

So I thought back onto my life and remembered that there was a time when I studied Creative Writing and Film and Television and my passion was to write sitcoms. Over years of being forced to write exegetical papers my passions for the medium were all but lost, but I decided to bust out the old keyboard and mouse and give it another go. At first I was writing a script, which I swear is almost finished, but I was constantly distracted from writing by looking for inspiration… on Hulu. So I decided to write a book. That lasted a total of 3 hours before I forgot what the point of my first chapter was and abandoned the endeavor entirely.

And now we are here. You are reading my blog, which is my final attempt at making something useful of my time. The point is, I studied writing at Orange County High School of the Arts in Santa Ana, CA and I studied Writing for Film and Television at Fullerton College where I received my AA. If education actually works then this should be at least a decent blog with few grammatical errors but don’t hold your breath.

Thanks for reading this. I hope that in all of this ranting you can find something that helps you grow closer to God and glorify him. Ultimately that is my only goal… and the whole being cool thing, but that’s neither here nor there. Blessings and Shalom.
